Preparing Your Child's Caregivers

There are times your child may be with family, friends, teachers, or other caregivers, so it is important that they are prepared to handle your child’s condition. To help others, the best thing you can do is be prepared and prepare them. First, a copy of the asthma action plan should be given to those who will be in contact with your child. Also make sure your child is aware of his or her plan. Be sure to review the plan regularly with your child’s doctor, and get your child involved as well.

Helping others use a nebulizer

When your child is in the care of family members, teachers, daycare providers, or babysitters, making sure they are comfortable with using a nebulizer is important. Download Caregiver Nebulizing Tips (PDF – 370KB) and give it to those who will be caring for your child. It provides your child's caregivers with a diagram of a nebulizer and information on how to use it, and how to care for it. Also, download an Emergency Contact Sheet (PDF – 633KB) to make sure your child’s caregivers know who to reach in the case of an emergency.
