PULMICORT RESPULES was designed to be delivered through a jet nebulizer. However, before using a nebulizer with your child, remember to read all of the instructions first.
You can also download a Mom’s Guide to Nebulizing (PDF – 471KB) to find tips from moms like you on how they made nebulizing easier.
If you have any questions about how to use a nebulizer, talk to your child’s doctor or contact the manufacturer.
Remember, PULMICORT RESPULES should be administered using a jet nebulizer, not an ultrasonic nebulizer, which works differently. Please see the packaging or instructions supplied with your child's nebulizer to make sure that it is a jet nebulizer and not an ultrasonic nebulizer.
Watch the video below to see the components of the jet nebulizer and how they work. You can also take a look at the step-by-step directions beneath the video.
How to Use PULMICORT RESPULES (Video)
- Take one ampule out of the sealed aluminum envelope, recording the date you opened the envelope
- Place any unused ampules back into the envelope and store at room temperature
- Keep in mind, any remaining ampules should be used within two weeks
- Gently swirl the ampule using a circular motion, making sure to not squeeze the ampule and keeping it in an upright position
- Twist off the top of the ampule and squeeze all the liquid into the nebulizer
- If your child is using a face mask, make sure it fits snugly
- Turn the compressor on and continue the asthma treatment until the mist stops, generally in 5 to 10 minutes
- Rinse your child's mouth with water after each dose, and wash your child's face after treatment if he or she used a face mask
